Live Baccarat Squeeze

Because you can see a variation of baccarat being played in the James Bond movies, the impression is that it is a very glamorous game. Indeed it can be, and if that is what attracts some people to the game, they would certainly welcome it.

But the real truth is that real money baccarat is a casino game that is accessible to everyone, and that has never been truer than it is right now. With casinos expanding across the United States, and easily deliverable online, there isn’t anyone who couldn’t afford to sit down and play for as long as they like.

Now, through the magic of advanced technology, baccarat is available online against live dealers. And while they can bring a new dimension to the proceedings, they can also bring new variations to the public.

And there are several of them. One that is particularly intriguing is that of “Baccarat Squeeze,” which will add a distinct and interesting cosmetic element to baccarat play that is actually based on a traditional ritual.

This is a variation that would not ordinarily be possible through conventional online play, but comes very much to life when it is exhibited through the live dealer casino.

Some basics about the game

At its heart, real money baccarat is actually a very simple game.You have three basic bets. You can place a wager on either a win by the “Player,” a win by the “Banker,” or a tie. The hand that has the highest value will be the winner.

So now let’s talk about the values and how they are calculated.

The objective in the game of baccarat is to get as close to a total of nine as possible. That is the maximum value of a hand. To get there, we are taking the right-hand digit of the total.

When the cards with values from 2 through 9 are dealt, they are “scored” at their face value. The Ace is worth one points. And any ten-value cards carry no value at all, so they aren’t even counted.

It’s actually pretty simple

The dealer distributes the cards out of a shoe. There are two cards to the Player and two for the Banker. So a total is derived from that. So here are some examples to illustrate how these numbers are tabulated.

* If a 2 and 7 are dealt, it is a 9, which is as good as it can get.
* If a 9 and 3 are dealt, they add up to 12, but the official total, for purpose of the game, is two (2).
* If a King and a 4 are dealt, it becomes a total of 14, which is, of course, converted to four (4), since we do not count ten-value cards as having any value at all.

Let’s discuss the basic payouts in the game, and then we will get to the others in a bit.

A winning bet on the Player’s hand will produce an even money (1:1) payout.

A winning bet on the Banker’s hand will produce a payout of 0.95:1, which is actually even money, minus a 5% commission on winning bets on the Banker.

A winning bet on a tie will pay at 8:1.

Simple.

And to be perfectly honest about it, that’s all you need to know.

What’s important to remember is that when you are playing baccarat, you do not get to make your own playing strategy moves. Whatever happens in the game as far as additional cards are concerned is dictated strictly by the rules and not anyone’s arbitrary decision-making.

Rules And Strategy For Playing Baccarat Squeeze

And this is where the game can get complicated for some people, because the additional cards are taken under any number of different circumstances.

However, we are obligated to tell you how the procedure works, because it has a bearing on how this particular variation works.

And again, keep in mind that you don’t have any decisions to make in real money baccarat, so while you should know what’s going on, there’s nothing you can really do about it, once you’ve made your bet.

Okay, here we go:

On the part of the “Player”…..

— If the initial two-hand total is anything between 0 and 5, then a third card is drawn.
— If the total is 6 or 7, then no third card is taken.

On the part of the “Banker”……

— If the rules dictate that the player doesn’t get a third card, then the Banker is going to follow the same rules the Player would, as far as taking a third card with a total of 0 to 5 showing.

Do you follow us so far?

Okay, now let’s talk about the specific moves that are required, depending on the circumstances at the table. Take not that you DON’T have to memorize any of this, because you are not responsible for any decisions or dealing any cards.

A Game Of Chance

What we will continue to stress is that we are talking about a game with no strategy, determined completely by chance. So what’s the good thing about it?

Well, unlike other casino games, such as blackjack, video poker or even craps, there is no such thing as a poor player. So you are no worse than anyone else; even if you don’t really understand the game, you’re not at a disadvantage because of it.

And for players who are not necessarily “expert” or even knowledgeable, baccarat offers some of the best odds. For example, you are only at a built-in house disadvantage of 1.06 percent when you make a Banker bet, and that house edge is only 1.24% with a Player bet.

Baccarat Squeeze – It’s a Ritual

So where does the term “Baccarat Squeeze” really come from? Well, it comes from a ritual that has been practiced by some players, more or less as a superstition. And it is probably most prevalent in places in which baccarat is especially popular.

And if you were to discuss places were baccarat is most popular, you simply can’t avoid Macau, where it is practically a national sport.

The fact is, baccarat brings in by far the majority of revenues for Macau’s casinos – more than 80%, in fact – and that chalks up almost $12 billion.

And it is a common practice for players actually “squeeze” their cards as they are getting ready to see their result. You see, the cards are dealt face down and so the superstition itself is that if one would squeeze a card, in order to reveal just some of it. This, we imagine, makes them think they’d get a better result than otherwise.

So how does this “squeezing” thing work?

There are things that players can do under the conditions of Baccarat Squeeze that they can’t do in other variations. The cards are dealt face-down, so they can play it this way.

When one is “squeezing,” they are turning up just a little portion of the card – just enough to offer a clue as to what that card is.

There are indeed lots of “squeeze plays” that cover the full range of idiosyncrasies.

You can, for instance, “squeeze paint,” in which your micro-revelation shows “paint,” which is an indication of a face card. As we have already mentioned, face cards, which count as ten, are worth zero (0) in the game of baccarat. So you would know it automatically if you see that paint in your little peek.

Then there is the concept of “squeezing an Ace,” where you are going to turn a little of that card up and what you see is, well, a lot of white. In fact, it is blank, and there is only one card fitting that description. That’s the Ace, and you’ll know that the value. as far as counting the total of the hand, is “1.”

Have you ever heard of “squeezing a point”? Well, that’s what happens when you pull back the card and see a single “pip” there at the top center. This is a sure indicator that it is either a 2 or a 3.

And we can’t possibly forget about “squeezing legs,” can we? This is what happens when you peek at the card and see two symbols, on either side of the card. And when you see this, you know that the card is going to be worth anything from a 4 to a 10. Of course, that doesn’t do you all the good in the world now, does it?

Other Ways To Squeeze

Thankfully there are other ways to do the “squeeze.” So instead of pulling up a portion of the card from the top, you can do so from the side.

So you turn the card around, and if you see two symbols from that view, it is called “Two Sides” and that means you have either a 4 or a 5. Then, by process of elimination – turning the card around and looking at it once again from the top – you can make the determination as to whether it is a 4 or a 5.

Then you have “Three Sides,” which corresponds, of course, to three symbols, and this makes it a 6, 7 or 8. Then, as you rotate it back around a couple of more ways, you can zero in on exactly what card you’ve got there.

And finally, there is the “Four Sides” result, which indicates four symbols seen from your side view. The 9 and 10 fit into this category. And your rotating procedure will eventually get you around to the correct value.

Yes, it does sound a little crazy. And it’s kind of silly to some people. But it is an established tradition of the game, and remember that Asian players – particularly the Chinese – are very superstitious gamblers. If you want something different, try live casino holdem.

These are things you would be doing yourself in a physical casino surrounding. Nothing, obviously, is going to change the result of the hand.

Squeezing isn’t the only superstition

By the way, squeezing isn’t the only superstitious thing that a player can do in the game of baccarat. Some players will blow on their cards to give them a little good luck, or to, in effect, “shoo” some bad number away. Players have also been known to call out – pretty loudly, in fact – for a specific card to come out that they assume will make them a winner. Other times, there is prayer, or its equivalent.

Get your bearings, then go for it

It wouldn’t be a bad idea to play a demo version of baccarat, and specifically Baccarat Squeeze, after reviewing the rules. Remember, what you’re rally doing is practicing in order to become familiar with procedure. There are no playing or betting strategies that you’ll have to “fine-tune.”

Then you can step into the live casino and dive into some real money baccarat.

The live casino experience

It occurs to us that some people may not be all that familiar with what goes in a live casino, and how they can participate. The experience is that you are coming in over your computer or mobile device, but you are beamed directly into an actual live casino (brick and mortar, as they say), located in a remote location.

You have a real-time high-definition video feed, and real-time results are tabulated. The dealers are right there “in the flesh,” so to speak. They are usually female and usually very attractive. After all, it is a visual medium.

You simply interact with the game like it is a “real” casino. It is absolutely the closest thing to being there, as you operate from your own home.

When you are playing in an online setting, it is naturally a little different than “being there.” Online baccarat is one thing. In this particular instance, you would be combining the characteristics of the online and brick and mortar worlds. But the game is being delivered from a physical setting, so whatever happens is not the by-product of a random number generator.

Keep this in mind when you are playing in a live casino – while these cards are being dealt from the shoe face-down, you are not the one who is touching the cards. The dealer is doing that.

However, you do get to watch it, and the dealer is an expert at it. On top of that, you are also getting a close-up view through other boxes that open on your screen.

So yes; you’ll get your thrills and excitement out of it.

Side bets add another nice twist

In this game, you have the ability to place a number of side bets that make the game even more intriguing. Let’s take a look at those:

* Player Pair — You are going to win this wager if the first two cards that are dealt to the Player are a pair. This payout here is 11-1.

* Banker Pair — This is exactly like the Player Pair, in that you’ll be paid off at 11-1 odds if the first two cards dealt to the Banker are a pair.

* “Small” Bet — Here, you are wagering that there will not be any supplemental; cards that have to be added to the round. In other words, you’re betting that there will only be four cards between the Player and Banker. This pays out at 1.5-to-1.

* “Big” Bet — You’ll be betting that there will be one or two additional cards required to finish the round (between Player and Banker). The payout here is 0.54-to-1. In other words, it pays off at less than even money.

* Lucky 7 — This is a wager that the Banker hand will total seven (7) points on three cards, and it pays 40-1.

* Ruby 8 — Here you’re betting that the Player hand will require three cards and total eight (8) points. It pays 25-1.

There are a number of bets you can make on a tie between the Player and Banker on the first two cards dealt. And here are the totals, along with the payouts:

* Tie 8-9: 40-1
* Tie 6-7: 22-1
* Tie 4-5: 60-1
* Tie: 1-2-3: 70-1
* Tie 0: 100-1

And then there is the “Dragon Bonus,” which provides plenty more side bet opportunities.

If either the Player or the Banker has either a natural winner or a non-natural (not 8 or 9) that is at least four points better than the opposing hand, this bonus will pay. Here are the situations and the payouts:

* Nine (9) points: 30-1
* Eight (8) points: 10-1
* Seven (7) points: 6-1
* Six (6) points: 4-1
* Five (5) points: 2-1
* Four (4) points: 1-1 (Even)
* Natural winner: 1-1 (Even)
* Natural tie: Push

In conclusion….

Baccarat Squeeze is a cult favorite that has thrilled high-stakes gamblers for years in Asia. And now with the advanced technology that is at our disposal through live casinos, it is now becoming more and more accessible to wider audiences in the United States.

It is innovative, yet primitive at the same time, in the sense that it is the product of superstition. The dealers know they have to provide some of the drama, and they are trained to do so.

Go with the flow, and enjoy some of the tension and excitement. It is, at the very least, a great change of pace!
